The IfBB – Institute for Bioplastics and Biocomposites was established in 2011 with the support of the Hochschule Hannover – University of Applied Sciences and Arts, as an autonomous institute within the university, following several years of increasing research activities. It is affiliated with Faculty II, Mechanical and Bioprocess Engineering, of the Hochschule Hannover. IfBB research activities mainly focus on the development, processing and industrial usage of bioplastics and biocomposites. This includes thermoplastic as well as duroplastic bio-composites. Research in this area aims to develop innovative materials for specific applications and to refine the engineering process for these materials. Another essential activity is to characterize the current range of commercially available bio-based engineering materials, give a detailed description of the bioplastics market, and make these data available in corresponding databases free of charge to the interested user. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Josef Endres and his team maintain close ties with various industry partners, university and non-university research institutions.
