"New pathways, strategies, business and communication models for bioplastics as a building block of a sustainable economy"

SP 4: Information and consumer

SP 4 deals with the information of consumers. It aims to analyse e.g. previous knowledge, attitudes, and experiences of consumers with respect to bioplastics. Consumers are distinguished according to their know-how of bioplastics, in an experienced and non-experienced group of bioplastics. A second objective is to identify suitable strategies to inform consumers about bioplastics and to assess them in an experimental setting.

Following project partners are involved in SP 4.

  • Hochschule Weihenstephan-Triesdorf - Fachgebiet für Marketing und Management Nachwachsender Rohstoffe (Lead)
  • Hochschule Hannover – Fakultät III Medien, Information und Design

SP 4 - Information and consumer aims to analyse previous knowledge, behavioural intention, attitudes, experiences etc. of consumers with respect to bioplastics.  Consumers are distinguished according to their know-how of bioplastics, in an experienced and non-experienced group of bioplastics. A second objective is to identify efficient strategies to inform consumers about bioplastics and to assess them in an experimental setting.

Appropriate communication instruments are identified by means of a literature review and an expert workshop. The practical realisation of the instruments is developed in a focus group workshop and afterwards applied for validity by means of an economic experiment.

Association, previous knowledge, perceptions, product experiences, behavioural intention, attitudes and general evaluations regarding the public discussion on bioplastics are analysed by an online-survey. Additionally buyers of bioplastics are characterised by online interviews conducted subsequently to a real purchase of such products. On the basis of the results suitable communication strategies for buyers and non-buyers of bioplastics are derived and recommendations for the practical application of promising communication instruments are developed. The sub-project is closely connected to SP 3, since a common online survey will be conducted. Further involved project partners are FKuR Kunststoff GmbH and memo AG.
